Serve this when nothing but a classic will do. It’s a powerful red with history in every sip, built for long dinners, late nights, and stories told around the table.
Tasting Notes: Élisabeth Chambellan Vieilles Vignes 2023 is a classic expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, dominated by 95% Grenache from old vines planted on the region’s famed rolled-pebble soils. The wine opens with a deep ruby color and a nose of ripe fruit, soft spice, and a touch of graphite. On the palate, it’s full-bodied with impressive density and volume, offering rich red fruit, fine spice, and a subtle saline minerality that adds lift and structure. The tannins are smooth but substantial, giving the wine a tight, refined texture and a long, elegant finish. A true symphony of all 13 permitted varieties, this is Châteauneuf with soul and staying power.
Varietals: 95% Grenache, 5% Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Clairette, Vaccarèse, Bourboulenc, Roussanne, Picardan, Counoise, Muscardin, Picpoul, Terret noir
About the Estate: In the old days, the Boisson family were both blacksmiths and winemakers. “Caboche” is actually the local word for the nails used to shoe horses, and it became their nickname. The estate traces its viticultural roots to 1777, when Jean-Louis Boisson married into the Chambellan family and inherited parcels in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Those same plots, now home to century-old vines, remain in the family today. Passed down through generations, Domaine Père Caboche is still family-run, combining time-honored tradition with sustainable vineyard practices to produce wines of character and depth from one of the Rhône Valley’s most storied appellations.
