If you’re interested in an older Sangiovese that hasn’t lost its structure or soul, this bottle delivers. Let it breathe, then enjoy with hard cheeses or rustic red sauces.
Tasting Notes: Now fully matured, the 2008 Il Cortile reveals evolved aromas of dried cherry, leather, tobacco, and forest floor, layered over subtle hints of violets and balsamic herbs. The palate is polished, with softened tannins, lifted acidity, and a savory core that holds together seamlessly. There’s a graceful persistence to the finish, where spice and fruit intertwine in quiet harmony. A refined expression of Colli Fiorentini terroir with the warmth of age and unmistakable Tuscan character.
Varietals: Sangiovese
About the Estate: The hills around the Castello di Poppiano have been, for centuries, the main farming site of the Guicciardini family. Names of still existing farm houses (La Costa, Malfastello, Camascioli, Poggerello, Olmo, Fichereto) recur in the family’s archive documents since 1300. Family letters highlight that already in the 15th to 16th century, olives and vines were the backbone of Poppiano’s farming activities. The Estate has remained in the Guicciardini family from generation to generation. At present, the Estate extends over 650 acres, of which 350 are vineyards and 96 are olive groves, all of them managed with respect for the environment.
