Light enough for a casual Tuesday, but with just enough spice to stand up to a rack of ribs. This is Gamay that knows how to party. Château du Basty delivers a bottle brimming with Beaujolais soul, juicy fruit, and a peppery edge. Chill it slightly, or don't.
Tasting Notes: Bright ruby in the glass with an expressive nose of blackcurrant and ripe red berries. On the palate, it opens with a clean, fresh attack and soft, silky tannins. A classic peppery note adds lift to the juicy fruit. Fermented with whole bunches and aged in both stainless and oak, this wine captures freshness and spice in perfect harmony. Serve slightly chilled to enhance its vibrant fruit and charm.
Varietals: 100% Gamay
About the Estate: Château du Basty is a family-owned domaine with roots reaching back to 1482 in the village of Lantignié, nestled in southern Burgundy’s Beaujolais region. Still stewarded by descendants of the Varenard de Billy family, the estate covers 12 hectares of vineyards spanning Beaujolais-Villages, Morgon, and Régnié. Vines thrive on granitic slopes overlooking the Saône Valley and are cultivated using sustainable “lutte raisonnée” practices. Harvest is done exclusively by hand, and vinification honors traditional whole-cluster fermentation for purity and fruit expression. Wines are bottled at the château, continuing a legacy of meticulous craftsmanship over five centuries.
