This is a red that asks for a cast-iron skillet and something with a sear... perhaps duck with black pepper and cherry, or a lamb tagine with apricots and spice. With its firm structure and earthy aromatics, it thrives in the company of bold flavors and generous hospitality.
Tasting Notes: Deep ruby in color, this Bandol red opens with an intense nose of spice, truffle, and forest floor. The palate is smooth yet powerful, supported by fine, elegant tannins that frame layers of blackberry, blackcurrant, licorice, and black pepper. Well-structured and complex, it benefits from decanting and pairs beautifully with game, marinated meats, spiced dishes, lamb, and bold cheeses.
About the Estate: In 1954, Paul Bunan first read about Bandol in the news. Many years later in 1961, he and his brother began to build the foundation of the Domaine. Eight years later, Chateau la Rouviere was purchased on the opposing hillside, and then in 1978, the two brothers reconstructed the Belouve vineyards at the base of the valley. Together, these three seperate terroirs have been carefully developed, watched, and tended to by the Bunan family. Vines aat Chateau la Rouviere are grown organically on limestone marls that date back to the Upper Cretaceous period. These are some of the oldest vines of the estate and enjoy great southern exposure on the steep and terraced hillsides of Provence.
